A Royal Ramble
(Elizabeth Park and surrounds)
Date: Sun 22nd August 2010
Time: 10am - 1pm
Event type: Street Orienteering
(bush areas are too wet & muddy at the moment)
Location: Elizabeth Park and surrounds
Assembly Area: Elizabeth Park, Near Biodiversity Garden (see red circle below)

Courses available: Junior Scatter & Open Scatter Courses
We will be running two courses. A Junior Scatter course and a more demanding Open Scatter Course. The Scatter Courses will be run using the street orienteering format, and map design perfected by Newcastle Orienteering Club. This was the format used for the Battle of Troy.
The Junior Scatter Course results will be divided into a Junior Class for children aged thirteen years and under, and an Open Class. All children accompanied by an adult will be in the Open Class.
The Open Scatter Course is a much more demanding course. It will be necessary to cross many roads to complete the course. All children aged ten years and under must be accompanied by an adult and their joint results will be counted as "Open results".
Children should not attempt either Scatter Course by themselves unless they have good map reading skills, can be counted upon to cross roads safely even when racing, and are aware of the possible danger posed by strangers.
Please note that if you choose to run more than one course, the second course you run will not be counted competitively.
Please bring water and a snack. You should not need a compass but we do have compasses that we can lend you.
Maps cost $5 each but if this is your first try we will charge you $2 per map. There is a family concession of $20 where more than four maps are required.
Please contact me if you have any questions or need a bit of encouragement :-)
Hope to see you soon!
Karen
